Examination of the myth of Hephaestus suggests that
whilst original sin is an obsessionary concept of religion,
the cloning of mankind in the image of God
was contrary to the injunctions of the then bioethics committee
of the Scientific Ethics Council

This file looks at those myths as history through the processes of Babel - the dispersion of time and distance. Examination of the ancient stories in this light gives hope of steering a safe path through the ethics maze.


According to Plato, The Greek God Hephaestus, the engineer, getting excited by his sister Athena, goddess of Science Wisdom and Knowledge, but being unable to copulate with her, spilled his seed upon the ground and mixed it with the dust of the earth. David Pinnegar, BSc ARCS notes that as we look at DNA as a computer programme, we can run similar programmes on different computers - so we can run DNA on the computer of another chemistry to produce life in our image.

Just imagine you're Hephaestus, the engineer who produces life in our image from his own DNA reflected in another chemistry. Just imagine how he has to confess his deed to the ethics committee of the Scientific Council. Just imagine what they say to him "Right: you're responsible for teaching them how to grow food for themselves without us having to feed them all the time as a drain on our resources and also for making sure they're going to be good. With the technology we've used to create them without our wisdom they'll be able to fight us and destroy us" (Film Independence day!?)

Given such a charge, no doubt he teaches us to grow food and bring it to the altar in the immortals' service - just as in the Promethean Feast at ceremonies just like those depicted on the Borghese Vase, plaques from which we have copies at Hammerwood. When the immortals disappear at a time associated with Noah's or the Deucalion flood we continue to serve the Gods by the bringing of food to the altars. The architecture of the temples symbolised these ceremonies and during the ceremonies we believed that the spirits of the Gods entered the wine and entered the sacrificial meat upon the altars (George Hersey: The lost meaning of Classical Architecture http://www.books.com/scripts/view.exe?isbn~0262580896 ). We ate the meat and drank the wine and thereby gained the spirits of the Gods inside us. Even today, in that act of remembrance of the supreme sacrifice, we still eat the body and drink the blood . . . And so in the preservation of the heritage the wisdom has been preserved in that journey through time from the days of ancient myth to the time of modern science.
In the Parthenon Frieze it's the Chairman's Vote that counts and, in winning the Chairman's vote we are able to view our pantheistic creation (Elohim in Genesis) through the eyes of our monotheistic Judaism, Christian and Moslem heritage.

In the exercise of the imagination of what we would do if we were Hephaestus, therefore, we find that everything we have ever been told in any system of faith follows and that in the ancient myths comes the wisdom to help us handle the impending moment when we discover that one of us engineers is a modern day Hephaestus.

In the realisation through knowledge of DNA that creation is possible, if (p) is the probability of evolution, suddenly it becomes (n-1) times more probable than (p) that we are any one of the 2nd to the nth generations of creation rather than the first individual unique evolution of life from "pea soup".

We may, however, find extraterrestrial life manifests itself sooner than we bargained for. Have a look at the Old Testament book of Job, Chapter 1, in which the (Council of the) Heavenly Host comes down to prove to the (Chairman) Father that not even Job was worthy of the Chairman's vote. They make appearances and intervene on other occasions within the Good Book resulting in (a) Noah's flood (?Plato's story of Atlantis? - for which Poseidon was responsible) and (b) at Babel where the Council allows communications between men to be disrupted (i.e. for which Hermes would have been responsible).

My proposition that it was the Chairman's vote that counted held good between the 2nd Chapter of Genesis (where the name of God changes from the plural to the singular) and about 30 years ago. (Please scroll to the end of this file for a question which has excited my curiousity.) Then, drugs came into widespread use within western society and we became aware of the potential damage to mother earth. This therefore gave the right to Dionysus to vote on the Council and possibly causing Demeter herself to vote. The personages of the Council manifest themselves on three levels - as heavenly deities, as forces within civilisation, and as forces within the personal psyche.

With the extra one or two votes, the hung council ceased to rest power in the Chairman: the whole political balance shifted to the Satan (negative) lot and those whose better attributes had formerly been used to benefit voted in the exercise of negativity - Hermes - miscommunication (newspapers worshipping Mammon thinking that the more negative news they promote the more profit they'll achieve) and thieving (necessary for addicts to buy drugs); Ares (Satan himself) - war, hate, murder violence and muggings and disinterest in others' sufferings; Artemis - hunting, power, greed, money (money and futures dealers with unreal 500,000 pound bonuses and worship of Mammon throughout society); Aphrodite - "love" as in love thy neighbour as thyself subverted into sex mistaken for love and an obsession of society for lust, sex intrigue and adultery. So, I expect that the Divine Council, the Council of the Heavenly Host, the Intergalactic Federation may now have once again been given full authority to manifest themselves and intervene again in human affairs . . .

One need not look very far on the web to find old and young alike dreaming dreams with prophecy rampant and crop circles appearing from "unknown" causes in patterns that seem uncannily familiar. Whilst one may take much with a pinch of salt, through the wisdom of the Parthenon Frieze, I shall be little surprised by anything! . . .



In the meantime it is up to us to buck the trend. It's not good enough to say "Get thee behind me, Satan" - the concept of an undefined Satan has not worked - "Get thee behind me deceipt and theiving, get thee behind me anger, violence and hate, get thee behind me greed and power, get thee behind me lusty desire" and in doing so one shall reach the Buddhist Nirvana.

During last year my (David Pinnegar) attention was drawn to Longwood Warren Crop circle.

It was found in the last week of July 1995. Earth appears to be missing. Here is a picture of the Solar system viewed from underneath on 25th July 1995:

The moons of Jupiter also present a similar pattern then. Here's a site written by Hopi Indians. The crop circle appeared simultaneously with the discovery of comet Hale Bopp.

The question:
Whenever I've asked a priest about the plurality of the word Elohim used as the name for God in the first chapter of Genesis, he has tended to go red in the face, bluster and tell me something about the Holy Trinity, the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit. By definition that is a New Testament concept which cannot apply to the first chapter of the Old Testament even predating the First Covenant and the priestly justification of this is a mystery to me. How does a priest view the Elohim, and the sons of God in the references in Gesesis 6 and Job 1 other than in the way I have analysed the Parthenon Frieze.? Please tell me!
